ROOSTING YOUR BIRDS
Submitted By: Earle Hammond

Try to roost your birds the night before the hunt. In the morning you know exactly where to go. Try to set up above the bird. I always try to find a strut zone on a ridge or a field. Once you locate your turkey get to the woods early the next morning set out your decoys. I like 2, they help take his eyes off you. I always set my decoys past me so that the bird has to walk by me to get to them. Don't overcall with all the hunters turkeys get accustomed to lots of calling making them call shy. Learn to yelp softly and purr. Pattern your gun. I do this every year! No two loads shoot the same. A new box is a different box so check them. I also let the birds get within 20 yards. Close is part of the fun. But it does not always happen that way. Good Luck, Earle Hammond
