One of the best places to start your search for bass on any lake is points. The type of point that you look for depends on the season. In the winter bass will often stage on points that are more vertical that drop off quickly as they are able to move vertically in the water column. Some of the best points this time of the year are ones where you have a bluff leading into chunk rock that forms a shelf. The bass will move up onto the shelf to feed and can easily slide off it into deep water. As the fish make their transition back into the creeks pay special attention to channel swing points that have pea gravel as well as chunk rock. The bass will stop on these points as they make their way to the coves to spawn. Bass love chunk rock early in the year because it's loaded with craw fish and holds heat after a couple of sunny days. After the bass spawn look for longer tapering points that fall off at the end into deep water. The bass this time of the year love these points as they can push bait up on them and put the feed bag on. Long points at the mouth of spawning coves are bass magnets and you can load the boat in a matter of minutes if you come across them at the right time.
When it comes to bait selection you can throw anything and everything at the bass relating to points. Early in the year jerkbaits can work wonders. As the season progresses and the bass start to move up and finish spawning make sure you have your carolina rigs, and your big football jigs on hand as well as some deep diving crankbaits. It's always best to let the fish tell you what they want.
